Welcome!
Psalms 47:1-2 says “O clap your hands, all peoples; shout to God with the voice of joy! For the Lord Most High is to be feared (i.e. reverenced), a great King over all the earth.”
Too much of what comes off as church today is either fluffy-self-help-sentimentalism or sweaty-red-faced condemnation. In contrast to this, Psalms 47 shows us the middle road of joyfully trembling before a Holy God. When you come to church there should be soberness over the reality of our sins, the evil in this world and the Holiness of God. However, at the same time there is great joy to be had in Jesus Christ and all He has done to save us from our sins, this world, the devil and hell. (Romans 8:31-39)
In other words, the Gospel of Jesus Christ is for those who realize they are not right with God, can do nothing to get right with God, and have become desperate. The Gospel (which means ‘good news’) is the news that God’s Son has come and died for our sins, resurrected from the dead and was seen, all according to what the scriptures said would happen. (1 Cor. 15:1-5) Paul said this Gospel is the ‘thing of first importance’. And from this Gospel flow all that we truly need in this life and the life to come. (Matthew 6:33; 2 Peter 1:1-3; 1 Thessalonians 2:13) When we believe and rest in this good news we are saved.(Ephesians 2:8-9)
This is what we are about at Chapel on the Hill. Jesus has called us to make disciples (that means ‘learners’) of all the nations. We hope you would seriously consider joining us as we all continue to ‘learn’ at the feet of Jesus in joyful reverence.
Welcome again, and may the grace of Jesus Christ be with you.
Sincerely,
Pastor Jeff
